Florida and Barbecue Sauce

It was just before college break, and my roommate and I were comming up with some plans for a outing to Florida. All was set, we were good to go, as normal, we didn’t have any money. This situation hadn’t stopped us before, however regardless of what we tried, we could not raise any money. her latest flame had been bragging about some type of barbecue sauce he had on a recent trip to Daytona. Sis was fairly confident her hubby would spring for our travels, if we might bring some of that really good barbecue sauce with us. She was right, he did, and we were off. We traveled straight through to Florida, and were on the beach the subsequent morning. The next four or five days flew by, I don’t remember much, which means it could have been an exceptional spring break. I do remember not desiring to leave, ever, but as our time in Florida drew to a close, I resigned myself to a long tedious trip back, to a long, boring final semester. Then I remembered the barbecue sauce. We did not have it, we hadn’t even looked for that obscure little dive, and, we had enough cash to get back to college, if we were fortunate, and our car would coast a little bit. My roommate and I were a little upset as we loaded up for the voyage home. My sister’s hubby had been nice enough to fund our adventure, and we had botched our part of the bargain. I took the secret ten bucks out of my shoe, and acquired ketchup, mustard, molasses, chili pepper and cilantro at the small food store next to the gas station, emptied and cleaned out an old fried chicken bucket I found in the rear seat, and all the way back to faculty, I mixed and tasted, tasted and mixed. The day after we got back, I gave the jar of barbecue sauce, which had aged nicely under my bed during the night, to my sister, knowing it might only be one or two hours at most, before I would have to explain and say sorry, which I wasn’t anticipating, to say the least. Whew! I never did tell my sister the real life story of the back-seat barbecue sauce, and my sole regret is that I can’t remember how I made it, as it was excellent!
